June 12th is Family Health and Fitness Day. It’s an annual initiative promoted by the National Recreation and Park Association to encourage families to focus on physical wellness. If you’re the mother of children and want to get them to be more active throughout the day, you’ll want to do your part to help promote Family Health and Fitness Day.
Ways to Promote Good Health and Fitness This Year
Good health and fitness are achievable through many practices. Some involve focusing on physical movement, others center on healthy eating habits. Sleep hygiene is another big part of a person’s overall well-being. So is access to stress-relieving tools and practices that promote excellent mental health.
Things you can do to observe Family Health and Fitness Day this year include:
- Going for a walk after dinner with your family and pets. It’s an excellent way to bond and get fit in the process. Everyone can use extra movement in their lives, including your dogs. Find a walking trail to visit or take a stroll around the block so you have some extra time together.
- Taking advantage of community resources that promote good health. Go to health fairs, have free screenings done, and use whatever tools and programs there are available in your community intended for families. The more time that you spend focused on your health, the better. It sets an excellent example for your children.
- Visiting the local farmer’s market to select ingredients to create a homecooked meal. It’s a fun way to lessen your carbon footprint while promoting good health. If you don’t have a farmer’s market in the area, see about attending one a short distance away. You’ll still have access to farm-fresh products that haven’t traveled thousands of miles for you to place them in your refrigerator.
- Biking to work or school instead of driving or using public transportation. Stop the burning of fossil fuels and strengthen your body in the process. Encourage your family to do the same. Forgo driving and taking public transportation for the week in favor of riding your bicycles.
Choosing a suggestion off the list is an excellent way to promote good health and fitness this year. It sets the example for your children, who learn by modeling your behavior. If you want to give them the gift of a lifetime, make family time about being outdoors and getting into the best shape of your lives.
Make Regular Visits to Your OBGYN Customary
Among the best practices to get into as a female and a mother is to have regular check-ups with an OBGYN. If you have yet to see one this year, it’s time to pay Dr. Ahmadinia or Dr. Dauphin a visit. Early detection saves lives. The sooner you have a check-up done, the better.
