Tubal Reanastomosis (Reattachment of the Tubes)

During the tubal ligation, the patient’s fallopian tubes were severed. However, most patients are left with a portion of their tubes still in tact. This procedure is performed while the patient is under general anesthesia, but it is considered an outpatient procedure. Most patients return home that same day, do not have to stay overnight in the hospital. The recovery period lasts anywhere from two to three weeks, during which time the patient should be resting and relaxing.

Tubal reanastomosis is a viable option for women who have had their tubes tied in the past but want to have children again for one reason or another. However, women must meet a specific set of criteria before they are considered a good candidate. They must be having normal menstrual cycles as well as be with a partner who has normal male fertility.
