What should I pack?
Labor takes a while so pack something that will help you relax and pass the time. There is a lot of time spent waiting for your body to prepare for active labor. Think about the kinds of things that help you to relax, and that can help you pass the time. You are also going to be in the hospital for at least an overnight. Think about packing things that make you comfortable. Do you have a special pillow? These kinds of items allow you to rest, and that will be important. There are personal care items that the hospital will provide for both you and your baby. There are also items that you should bring yourself. Check with Reza Ahmadinia OBGYN about any special items that you should bring. Don’t forget to pack your car seat.
What kind of Entertainment works best?
As mentioned, labor is a lot of time spent waiting for things to happen. It is important that you stay as relaxed as possible during those hours of waiting. Consider bringing a few of your favorite magazines for lite reading, or a personal music device. Consider that you will be spending time with your family and your partner during your wait, so entertainment that includes more than one person can also be helpful.
Some mothers keep a journal of their pregnancy, so continuing your journal through as much of your labor is another possibility. It is also an opportunity to create life long memories of your child’s entry into the world. Items that help you create memories might also be a consideration.
The more thought that can give to your hospital bag the less stress you will have when the time comes to leave for the hospital. The time you spend in the hospital should be as restful as possible. When you get home, your ability to rest is going to decrease as you care for your baby. Take the time during the end of your pregnancy to make sure that your nursery is complete and that you have prepared for having a new baby in the home. A good tip is to prepare meals ahead of time that can be frozen. Another good idea is to stockpile your baby supply closet. 2 a.m. is not the time to discover that you are out of diapers. The more you do now, the less stress that you will have later. Investing in reducing your stress is rewarded by quality time spent with your baby.
