When a woman starts trying to conceive, she may quickly start to analyze every symptom she experiences as she questions whether or not she is actually pregnant. High Desert women who think they might be pregnant should understand the early symptoms that are associated with pregnancy. At Reza Ahmadinia OBGYN, we recommend that Apple Valley women take a pregnancy test if they are experiencing any of these early signs of pregnancy. This is the best way to confirm a pregnancy.
What are the Early Signs of Pregnancy?
Spotting — Some women will notice implantation bleeding, which can occur between 6 and 12 days after conception. Not all pregnant women will notice implantation bleeding, as it can be quick, light, and subtle.
A missed period — This is the most common early pregnancy symptom. Most women will not notice any other symptoms of pregnancy until after they have missed their period. If your period is late, you can take a pregnancy test in order to find out if you did in fact conceive.
Fatigue — Women who are in the early stages of pregnancy may feel extremely fatigued. This symptom can begin about a week after conception occurs.
Nausea — This is another common early pregnancy symptom that most women can easily identify. Nausea is caused by the sharp rise in hormones, but not every woman will feel nauseous during the first weeks of pregnancy. Nausea will begin anywhere from 2 to 8 weeks after conception occurs.
Swollen and tender breasts — The breasts will begin to change shortly after conception, leaving your breasts feeling swollen and tender. These changes typically occur about 2 weeks after conception.
Frequent urination — This early pregnancy symptom will not occur until closer to 6-8 weeks after conception. As the uterus begins to change and grow, it can put pressure on the woman’s bladder. You may find yourself going to the bathroom more frequently.
Headaches — As the hormones continue to rise, you may experience frequent headaches. Not everyone experiences this pregnancy symptom. If you are having headaches during your pregnancy, be sure to talk with your OB/GYN before you take any medications to alleviate the discomfort. You only want to take medication that is safe for you and your growing baby.
If you are experiencing any of these signs or symptoms, you can take a home pregnancy test in order to find out if you are pregnant. If you receive a positive result, contact us at Reza Ahmadinia OBGYN in order to schedule your first prenatal appointment and ultrasound. It is important for your health as well as for your baby’s health that you begin prenatal care as soon as you find out you are expecting.
